Thinking Back

One year ago today…

My life changed.

I went from talking of patriotism, honor, love of my country and the principles of our founding fathers to signing away my life, if necessary, in service to the Constitution that organizes that country.

It is not to say that those who do not join the military are not patriotic. Many truly are, many are misguided in believing that they are.

It is not to say that those who join the military are all those things. A great many I met joined for the basic reasons… nothing else to do, wanted to get some structure, seemed like good money and a guaranteed job, adventure, or to go to college.

But they weren’t blind. They knew the reality.

It has been a good year. Many challenges, but so much support from so many of you. It seems that in those times I am not in training I am not writing nearly as much. I appreciate the continued support.

However, ironically, my commander was talking to me the other week about some things, including the following:

“Hey, I’m going to need you to do something… I need you to learn something about these things called ‘blogs.’ You’re a pretty good writer, I bet and we might need to do something with that for our battalion. ”

Officially sanctioned AND ordered? This is going to be fun. Stay tuned.

Good luck with the sanctioned… Nephew heads out to the Raq in Oct. Army Reserve MP. I remember when one leg would shake that boy down. He’s excited about it now, but once he leaves his wife and baby, he’s either gonna sack up, or be sad about bein’ gone. I’m bettin’ the former, and as time goes on, the latter.
