Reassurance

I was talking with my cousin last night about some of my Basic experiences. She thought it a little unusual. She is a Major in the National Guard and for years was in charge of shipping people off to various Initial Entry Training (Basic) courses.
She said that when she found out I had been shipped to Missouri for Basic she thought, “Well that’s a tough one.”
But, she told me, “At least you weren’t in the 1-48th while there, right? They are notorious.”
“Um. I was in the 1-48th.”
She calmly replied, “Oh s#!t.”
Hey, so I had a little tougher than average Basic. Big deal. I was wondering why my friends were all wide-eyed when I mentioned I had been tear-gassed at least 12 times.
Then again, how bad could it be if they also took us to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert? Yes… for real… with a 17-minute rendition of Freebird to quell the masses…
I am so proud of you!!
And I will have a goody box to you as soon as I get a batch of apple butter ready- maybe 10 days.
yikes!
Tear gas and Lynyrd Skynyrd…yikes.
Lynyrd Skynyrd?
Wow.
Lynyrd Skynyrd? I’m sure they wanted to toughen you up but that’s just plain mean.
since i am not the first one to make this sort of comment, but the real tragity in the 70 with Lynyrd Skynyrd, is not that some of the band died, its that some of the band lived. All kidding a side, Glad you made it through, and at least the band you heard you knew about. When i went through is was some local AC/DC coverband that just sucked.
Welcome back RSM… glad to hear you survived the 1/48.
And Lynyrd… *thumbs up*
I didn’t think that band was still playing. It all sounds rather magnificiently brave to me. Especially 17 min of Free Bird…
Dang, Lynard Skynard… Oh well, You were probably ready to get back to the tear gas after that…
(rim shot)
That CS gas is a bitch. It really clears out the sinuses.
