Like the Deserts Miss the Rain…

Things I Probably Won’t Miss
Late night phone calls from someone in tears over the same problem as the last three calls. Leave him. Seriously, let him go.
Major decisions worth a lot of money
Yard work
Picking out what to wear
24-hour deadlines to come up with documents and a plan or else “all construction will stop.”
“So long as you’re here… why is my stupid printer not working?”
People convinced their degree makes them morally superior
The stress of watching my 4 years of intensely hard work being credited to another.
Bills
Carpenter Bees
Things I Might Miss
My king-sized bed
The rain on the steel roof
Telling the Colonel to go f- himself with a smile and a punch to the arm
Ignoring the Sergeant-Major when he tries to jump in the conversation until finally pushing him away.
Going to the bathroom in private, rather than with privates… and recruits… and their privates…
The scent of clean women
Workouts on my own schedule
Sleeping naked
Gin & Tonic, Rum & Coke, Vodka & Ginger Beer
Air Conditioning
The three owls sweeping in at dusk to hang out and screech for a few minutes
My cooking
Who are we kidding: the cabin
And while we’re at it, nobody tell me how the end of the last Harry Potter book goes. I’ll read it on my own as soon as I get done, probably that first weekend.
ok, I promise. I won’t give it away. But I might send it to you.
I won’t tell you the ending but I will give you a hint: its subtitle is “Hermione Does Hogwarts”.
I know you will miss the cabin…nd the library.
Here is an idea….
you could turn it in to a retreat for whacked out bloggers.
make them pay big$$$ to listen to the rain
Seriously? You sleep naked? In the air conditioning? Don’t you get COLD?
and we will all miss you…
Things I’ll definitely miss:
RSM
Who is this Harry Potter you speak of… *grin*
AWTM has a great idea there! I’d pay!
I’ll be sure to sleep naked after a shower (so I have clean girl smell), in the air conditioning and write you lengthy letters about it.
The thing you may miss the most – the feeling of self-determination. On the one hand, this decision to enlist is entirely a self-determination thing… But on the way… Not so much. There may be a little voice (hopefully it makes you laugh) that keeps reminding you that you have chosen this as you go through the coming weeks. Somehow, it is always easier to deal with anything if you feel that you have some control, and well, in this case you exercised it at the beginning, eh? More importantly, you have a lot of perspective and experience to draw on, so even in the tough times, you will be just fine.
Take care!
