I did some reading up. The bane of my existence in a log cabin isn’t termites so much. Termites are easy to deal with and actually tend to avoid the sealed, kilned, chemically treated logs of a home in favor of the fallen deadwood out in the forest. I’m cool with that.
Nay, it is the evil carpenter bees.
At first I thought the reason for my lighter than normal attack of bees this year was due to the cold weather that lasted well into the spring. But after a little research I found something else.
Wasps go after carpenter bees. The last several years I have eliminated any wasp nest I saw on or near the cabin. This year, no way; only the ones on the deck near the front door, otherwise, I encourage them in their endeavors. They do no damage and their nests fall off in the winter.
As long as they stay outside and go about their business, they have nothing to fear from me, though there is one carpenter bee spot just underneath an installed flower planter outside the second story window that seems to keep activating. The wasps need to get to that one.
The enemy of my enemy… and all that crap.
Kinda like a snake and mongoose thing goin’ on ‘roudn the cabin? Keepin’ the balance of power “and all that”.
Not a fan of anything that flies and buzzes at the same time. Kill ‘em all and let God sort them out. Or something.

Doesn’t kill them, just makes them go away.
I’m allergic to bee-stings… there’s this little dance I do whenever they come near me; humiliating at best.
The wasps? Yeah, they’d kill me. The bees? If they stung me? They’d kill me.
Not exactly a win/win in my book. But hey – what ever works for you.
Now, you’ll need to excuse me. I just got a terrible case of the heebee jeebees.
