On a Lonely Road

Speaking of music, I have one more weekend of some peace and quiet, but field training exercises are on the horizon again. The first one will be with a group of regular soldiers and such but the next one after that I’m back with the elite mountaineering unit.
One of the traditions of their maneuvers is that after an entire 2-3 days of exhausting drills, stress, climbing, rappelling, sleep deprivation, etc., they THEN load up all their gear on their backs and run several miles down the steep mountain trying to remain upright the whole way, usually in the middle of the night.
Well I came across another song… I almost want to be singing this to them for cadence, or have the trailing vehicle playing it for them. It just seems appropriate:
But I suppose that would be wrong.
I’m on the rocky road
Heading down off the mountain slope
And as my steps echo echo,
louder than before
Another day is done,
say goodbye to the setting sun
See what i found,
Turn back to the ground
Just like before*And Hey hey hey hey hey hey
Hey beautiful day, hey beautiful day
Hey hey hey hey
Hey beautiful day, hey beautiful day
When the night feels my song
I’ll be home, I’ll be homeInto the undergrowth,
Twist and turn on a lonely road
In the twighlight
the day turns to night
And i’m aloneAnd when the light has left
I’m not sure of my every step
Follow the wind that pushes me west
Back to my bed
I’m having guy/rapelling Envy! You see, its times like these that I wish I were a guy. I have virtually no upper body strength to be able to do vertical rock climbing & rapelling and I would so love to do that. You guys have all the fun!
As for working in the fashion industry, it’s easy, all you have to do is starve yourself, put one foot in front of the other while raising your knees up high as you walk, all while wearing some hideous clothes. Its not rocket science, heck it not even fun! Yes, I figurativley prostituted myself for the money. Not a good feeling.
