I also didn't read about it - just noted the headline. My thoughts are: Good for her. First for providing a school - no matter who gets to attend or where it is. Second for putting all that money into circulation instead of heaping it in a bank somewhere. Last - for being involved in the planning and implementing. I've always been very impressed with what Oprah has accomplished - I don't care for her show, but she has worked hard to get where she is. I am not an Oprah fan, but it is her money, and, as you say, she earned it. The school cost $40 million, and, according to the story, she was involved in the design of the place. She has already taken criticism: Why didn't she build a school like that in the US? Why are there only two white girls in the school? I figure it's not my money, and considering how other "celebrities" piss away fortunes. I say good for her. It is my understanding that she is building several such schools. I am very interested to see the positive changes that come from educating women all over the world. When I read this, I thought, "Geez, am I really paying so little attention to the 'news' blurbs online as I click around for the comics?" This is more newsworthy than most of the crap I see on Yahoo. I went to Catholic high school. So I had to sit through a daily religion class, big deal. I got a college prep education that was head, shoulders, arms and legs above what I would have gotten at the local public school. Wow!
