The Count

Badgered, battered and blue. That’s the latest feeling about the workplace. It will pass, but today I needed to get some work done. More budget hearings come tomorrow and I was requested to help spec out details for others, which meant a good bit of work from my office.

But my office was in a state of chaos today as one person after another came by. I was supposed to be hidden away at the end of a long corridor, where no one would think to go. Word has gotten out, though, and at one point there were 9 other people gathered around my conference table today chatting, discussing, revealing.

Can I work from home? you betcha. And since I’m one of the main bosses I get to excuse myself for it. No one will know to find me there. After lunch I drove back to the cabin and up to the loft with my files. You know, there’s another reason to be here. It’s autumn. Why would I want to go elsewhere? The colors of the leaves only last a few weeks. I should be here, enjoying it, not listening to others ask me questions about how beautiful it must be.

Besides, I have no idea how many more autumns I will experience. I can’t let this one pass me by thinking I’ll catch it again next year.

From the loft desk I was able to enjoy the environment of home, and finished the reports fairly quickly, far more so than with the distractions of the office. Looking out over the domain, the forest in which I live, through the windows I could see it was time to reward myself with a little walk. The colors from up here are beautiful, but I wanted to get out to a particular stand of trees I saw and lie on my back for a bit, listening to the stream downhill from my feet. Looking up from the ground, this much I’ll share:

I feel the same way. I walked along the W&O one fall from Vienna to Lessburg. Best time of year.

Beautiful shot. I can almost hear the water… You’re a lucky guy.

Wow… That really made me appreciate what I have now. Yeah, it’s a drafty, small house, but it’s got 4 acres of multi-colored trees…
