Event Horizon

As the BIG day approaches, the stress increases. The high-ranking visitors are coming. More stars on shoulders than in Orion. We are pulling this shin-dig off with very little time from concept to execution. What fascinates me is that as we get closer and as we get more and more stressed out, the core group of planners and task-horses are getting even more mellow and supportive of each other. There’s no snapping. No short tempers… yet… at least…
Meanwhile, I’ve still not seen the house in daylight for a few days and probably won’t for some time. In addition to all this, I get to go play medic in the field while hoping that everything falls into place for next week. Heck, even my new, super incredible office has been sacrificed for this event.
However, just in time to bitch-slap my ego with a good cut-down keep me grounded and make me feel like a puny geek remind me to not skip workouts, Butterbar showed up, going a few hours out of the way of his drive home to hang out with friends around here and take me to lunch. In the end, I had to pay, but that’s how he works it. “Oh I completely forgot they don’t take credit cards here.” Yeah, no problem. I got it covered. I probably owe you anyway.
So, friends, if you sense a friend is stressed, head on out there and take him or her to lunch, even if they are too busy for lunch. They’ll need the break away. I’m a lucky one to have great lunch companions nearly every day.
that’s wonderful. i don’t normally get that for lunch, but last night, my post office boss took a group of us to a pizza place. it was bliss.
