A Thank You for Past Donations
January 25th, 2006 by rsm
Remember a few months ago? A bunch of us bloggers were pushing y’all to donate to Project Valor IT. Voice controlled laptops for soldiers with arm and hand injuries. I donated. Many of you did as well.
Well I want to say thank you, again. I was telling one of my kids about them a few weeks ago (over beer and poker chips). He lost half his arm. He has so many specialized attachments for it now, we were yelling at him the other day. “R! what are you doing in there?”
“Getting my uniform ready.”
“What’s taking you so long? put on the arm with the built-in iron!!! You got one of those too, right?”
But he can’t type very quickly yet.
Today I got a call from him. “Heya! RSM! Got a minute?” For you? Hell yes. “I talked with those people and they want to be able to give me a laptop but I have to go up to DC to be trained on it and can’t really do it right now with classes. But I could use it for my classes too.”
Sounds about right, they want to be sure you are able to really use it and take advantage of it first.
“Yeah, well, I was thinking, considering your position in IT and all, and your work with the military IT, maybe I could have them send it to you and you could be the one to train me on it? Mind if I offer that to them?”
Absolutely not. I’d be glad to do that. Give them any and all of my numbers to try to call me. I’ll jump through whatever hoops they want. If they want me to go to DC to get trained on it so I can train anyone down here for them, tell them I’ll do that too. Or I’ll talk with them on video. Be sure to let them know I was one of their supporters, still am, and donated to the cause as well… multiple times.
“Yessir! I’ve got so much stuff to write about my recovery time, I want to get to it.”
So there you go. I’m sure I’ll hear back this week one way or the other. Know that your donations have directly helped someone I know… and you know me because of this crazy blog. Thank you again.

that is WONDERFUL!
That is so awesome!
That is cool… I kicked in a small, small part, but it’s damned good to see that a friend of a friend has the potential to get somethin’ from it.
Do what you can man. I know you will.
Kick ass…
