Holiday with the Whirlwind…

So mom is still here, enjoying herself. I did all the cooking so she could sit and savor the day:

* a turkey breast… pounded flat, then rolled with a fresh 10-grain bread/fresh sage/wild rice stuffing, with an outer ring of apple-wood-smoked bacon. All the tender turkey goodness, juicy through and through, no messy cleanup and just the right sized portions. She loves it.
* my green bean casserole which involves swiss cheese and garlic, no mushroom soup.
* mashed potato purée, double sieved for smoothness.
* pasta gratin made with a garlic infused white sauce and grated gruyère.
* fresh cranberry sauce.

I also kept her wine glass full, changed to water when the whim struck her, some other good friends showed up and started eating with us, then a walk down to the creek, chop some more firewood, though I have plenty, set up her DVD Christmas presents, a game of Gin Rummy, cleaned up the dishes, cleaned up the kitchen, took out the trash, made another pitcher of iced tea, a few cartoons, phone calls to her friends, then she wanted Chicken Parmesan for dinner and I did have all the ingredients for that so she checked her email while I cooked, cleaned up her dinner, got a fire going in the fireplace even though I am quite warm, made some more cookies since she ate all the ones I already made, and now we are watching one of her favorite holiday movies: Misery. She is just laughing away. And you wonder from where my warped sense of humor came? “The operation was called ‘hobbling’.” THWACK! Bwahahah! Pause it, I have to go to the bathroom. More wine, please.

To all of you who said she would be great to meet, you are correct. She is something else. Doesn’t really look a day over 50 anyway. Just be sure you have the energy to keep up the conversation.

Merry Christmas to you all. Again, thank you for caring enough to read my literary dribbles. And each and every one of my friends and blog family, may this year be better than any so far. Life will be good.

Update: Almost forgot… pour mes lecteurs en France et au Canada, merci aussi, et le Joyeux Noël. Je promets écrire en français autrefois. そして日本で、ありがとう。

    Hey man, that sounds like one good time. It sounds like a time good enough to work for, which it sounds like you did. Good on ya’.

    I hope your Mom has a great holiday, and that you do as well. Soon, you’ll be walkin’ ’round ther bear breasted from the extra wood in the fire place.

    My kids get cold, I say put on clothes.

    To each his own I reckon’. I though you were supposed to turn water into wine, not the other way ’round? ;)

    Merry Christmas RSM. Yes, I now know where your “sense of humor” came from. And your good natured ribbin’ too.
