Gallimaufry¬?

To my friends who arranged this blog for me, Thank you so much. I need to get a little something up here today to let you know I am still alive.

I spent Saturday at a little gathering a few hours from The Rest meeting up with bloggers from all over the country at a warm Tennessee mountain home. It was a remarkable experience as our host pulled together a fascinating mix of individuals of different tastes, talents, but all with a desire to express themselves well and a determination to do better each time. Oh… and a determination to not stand in the way of someone else’s alcohol or barbecued rib consumption.

Lots of names, lots of faces, and I dare not share all the details. See, bloggers appear to revel in the fame of their anonymity. There is an approval that comes with the rising hit-counts. Deep down they don’t truly think they can remain anonymous, but they certainly don’t want to make it TOO easy to find them or figure out who they are. That’s why pictures of blogmeets are rare, the descriptions merely a thieves’ cant for lengthy conversations without details. I’m sure if I mentioned “gag reflex,” my friends would assume the normal salacious activities, but to those who were present, we have a nice wide smile as we think about those moments around the pool table. (Oh, friends, the best part of the story is the part you leave to the readers’ imagination.)

So again, to my old friends, thank you. To my new acquaintances, I hope to see you again soon. I only hope my quiet nature is interpreted as absorbing the details of the moment, and not due to some aloof character flaw. I look forward to our next conversation and the growth of our own friendships, you bunch of bastards, since now I care about what happens to you, too. That includes my blogfamily and new brother-in-arms T1Gger (don’t make me come up there and straighten you out.)

More to come.
